"Social Distancing" Photo Exhibition
March 2020.
Covid 19 has put many of us in forced isolation but The Caff is always open and we can enjoy everybody's company without fear of infection.
And there is no limit to the creativity of QCCers.
Here is how they see "Self Distancing"

- Secret cache of 34 x 1950’s Izal toilet rolls found in the loft of Buvvy Towers and left their by previous occupants. Hardly used. I wanted to sell them on Bumtree but Mrs Buvvy says she wants to make something out of them.

In my confinement the cherry blossoms outside my window were giving me great pleasure, but yesterday was such a beautiful day that I had to get out and see them a bit closer – and have a breath of air. The atmosphere outside is strange, but the cherry blossoms don't seem to have noticed! (I've thrown in an earlier cherry blossom photo and a few daisies and speedwell for good measure...)

Round and round around it goes, where it stops nobody knows, best stay home and paint your toes!

I’ve been by myself in the house for the last 16 days, so I decided to give painting a go.

Into Day 2 of self isolating having arrived back from Cambodia yesterday.. what a nightmare everyone scrambling to get back, not to buy loo paper but because the borders in NZ have been closed!
Here are three pix:
First checking for the next precautions now I've got my uniform on and in place ( Rabbit Island, southern Cambodia),
And looking the part in the taxi en route to the airport yesterday and looking quizzically at the cab driver wondering if we have enough space between us!
And seeking solace in the Good Book just in case the crash course in Buddhism doesn't work!

Rather than submitting a photo, I took the trouble to draw a cartoon of life here at dinner time, Chez Subbie style.
The woman depicted is my re-rendering of a stock drawing I found on the interwebby and is not, contrary to belief, an accurate depiction of Mrs S.

This was taken 10 days ago, before the social distancing really got going. But it was noticeable that there were fewer people around the little parade of shops near our Worthing bolt-hole. I thought the rainbow added a nice touch too.

1. We have never made much of Mother's Day, but this year the social distancing makes it more meaningful to me.
2. Within a few minutes walk from boring suburbia, we are out. Aaahh! fresh air and space.
3. Social distancing for sheep. Do sheep usually lie down like this?

2. Came across these sculptures in a woodland beyond the arse end of nowhere.
3. A favourite from last summer, the day a new door was installed in the wall of the cabin, the three doggies couldn’t get their heads round it.

An isolated bush up on the Denbigh Moors and our walks through the dunes and on the beach. The pond is a 'dune slack'. It is fenced off because the natterjack toads that live in the dunes breed there.
And Rollo, the cat from down the road, self-isolating in our garden. He comes to look at our cat Loony Tunes through the patio doors.

Outside... enjoying the sunshine, waiting for Spring to get going and feeding the fish.
Inside... enjoying a book or three (horizontal read, vertical unread, and yes I’m a bit of a Pratchett and Banks freak), doing the odd jigsaw and lots of listening.

Several people have asked why did I weigh my butty.
So I can answer questions about the adequacy of my diet.
Do you know how much a slice of bread weighs ?

This just about sums up my days at the moment, working from home, the company of my cat, knitting in the bag which awaits evening attention. And, of course, the telly subject to regular binge-watching (multi-tasking with easy knitting).

Whilst there have been no reported (Covid-19) cases in the feline population, that doesn't appear to stop them from heeding the sound advice of our other lords and masters, our political leaders.

I get the feeling things may be getting a bit out of hand here at Chez Subbie - even our his-and-hers Underpants of Faith are starting to adhere to the strict social distancing rules.

With gardens like ours, over grown allotments really, and our neighbours’ - fences virtually non-existent - confinement doesn’t seem so bad for Dog or us.
But for the hens in the next garden??

Yesterday I couldn't get through to the Pharmacy to check if my prescription was ready. For the first time, I requested help from our local streets' WhatsApp group. One person went to check in the morning, and another went to pick up the medication in the afternoon. Not only that, but she also got us a few things from the supermarket, and brought these carnations as a gift to 'brighten my day'. It did!

Went to ASDA just now, mission to get a birthday present for Nellietheelphant and leave it on her doorstep. Absence of cut flowers, but found a proper little bay tree. But who should I bump into in store but Nel! So we arranged to meet outside afterwards where I could transfer it into her trolley. Held at bay takes on a new significance!

The Bovey Bikers Virtual Ride and Pub Night
Undoubtedly one of the best bike rides I've never been on and many thanks to Tony for opening up for a Lockdown in The Lockdown (sounds like a good name for a pub ).
Some wonderful locations as well - I hadn't realised that so many of you were stuck in far flung corners of the world. But no need to worry - Dominic Raab is on the case and by the time he gets you home our Community Hub will be almost ready to open.
I mistakenly thought that it was going to be a bring a bottle of your favourite tipple event so I clawed my way through the massed ranks of Prosecco (do people actually drink that stuff?) and half-finished bottles of Blue Nun and found these beauties at the back.
In order of preference they are:
1. Pims No 1 Cup described as a "Sling Gin". Like this cupboard this bottle was salvaged from my parent’s house many years ago. I think they had been saving it for World War 3 or a pandemic. The back of the bottle has graduations to ensure you don’t drink too much of it (its 60% proof) I'm not sure whether it is drinkable but I will pass it on to my successors.
2. Bastardo - A fine wine from Iberia and a much treasured offering from Dave W. Sadly the bottle is empty as I consumed the contents many years ago. But I kept the bottle to remind me of you Dave.
3. Dutch Berenburg - Unfortunately it's neither a beer nor a burger. A typical Dutch gin for consumption on a cold winters evening. I must have bought it when visiting the relatives many years ago and before I got worried about Climate Change. Based on past experience I am going to put it back in the cupboard tucked away behind the unopened tins of lemonade purchased for our Millennium Celebrations.
I am already looking forward to next Thursday's ride which, if we are lucky, will involve a trip to academia hosted by Steve G.

Yesterday evening at about six o’clock there was a remarkable change in the wind direction and the weather. This produced an amazing range of different colour skies and light.
Normally you might have to duck under a tree (or a branch of a tree) but this morning there was a Mandarin drake high up in in an oak tree. The female was nearby but not too close and certainly not within 2 metres.
I suspect that they plan to nest in one of the nearby owl boxes. They are hole nesters after all.
Don't be fooled by the colourful appearance - they can be quite vicious when required. I have seen the males attacking much bigger mallards and they are quite capable of fighting off a Tawny owl.

I thought of you when out on my bike relatively early this morning - it was beautiful down by the river. People were out exercising but everyone kept a sensible distance apart, and there were many kindly greetings.
