Wife and threekids gives us sad news
On 18th May wifeandthreekids, a regular poster that had been absent for some time, posted this message:

I'd like to wish all my friends on here (yes, both of you) a fond farewell.
As my health got worse, I was stuck in a Hospice to die - I had a marvellous time there - more Ashenden's sanatorium in Somerset Maugham than The Eagles' Hotel California. By the time I'd got used days of coffee and Telegraph crosswords over breakfast in the sunshine (Guardian crossie up on the ipad at midnight with the last shot of sleeping draught for me specially so I could have a shot), I complained that there must by someone more needy than me?
Back at home.
Back on the "you've got months- possibly weeks/weeks possibly days stuff from the medics.
So, if I disappear suddenly, you will know why.
Thanks for all the fun you've given me over the years.
The huge number of responses to his post and the warm and sympathetic tone of all of them is more evidence of how special our community is and how it is possible to really care about someone you have never met in real life.
I decided to save the comments for him, his wife and his three kids whom none of us have ever met.
