MissPellAny's advice on back pain
MissPellAny was an enthusiastic Alexander Technique teacher and gave us a lot of advice on many areas. Here is an exercise for lower back pain.
These are her words:
The important thing is:
- don’t treat this as meditation
- it is really a practice of attention
- it is also a practice in thinking - in consciously directing your thoughts, rather than let them drift
- it is also a practice of using the support of the floor, or whatever you are lying on, fully, so you do not have to hang on to yourself
- it is also a practice of observation: you might find out what your general modus is, what your concerns are, what you are hanging on to - in thought or muscularly
- and it is meant to be enjoyable. As soon as you notice that you are trying too hard to let go of tension, just leave it be - leave yourself along and let gravity sort you out.
And here is the full description of the exercise.
